Cube

Cube is a first person shooter for the iPhone that is reminiscent of the console game, Halo. It features similar cavernous environments filled with enemies you have to shoot or punch, along with items, such as armor and weapons, that you are expected to pick up on your journey.
Also like Halo, the game has a multitude of maps, so you can choose to have a different game every time you play. It also has excellent 3-D graphics. But unfortunately, that is where the similarities end.

I found navigation in this app to be exceedingly difficult to use, since you walk through the world by tilting the phone for direction and then touching the right corner of the frame to walk forward. Not only is this confusing, but the jerking of the picture can quickly give you a headache.
Also, the options menu, which doesn’t even show up at the beginning of the game, is in microscopic print, adding to the eyestrain you most likely already have from trying to figure out where you’re going. To access the menu, you have to touch the upper left corner of the screen and then the lower left to choose an option. All the while, the action never stops on the map.
I did like firing my weapon at enemies, which included armor clad fighters, weird burly alien like beings and of course, rhinoceroses. However, they come in batches of 10 or more, so the beginning player is likely to get ambushed before even determining how to navigate out of corner. A considerable lag time does not help matters at all. I only recommend this app for those who are incredibly determined and patient and have a good supply of Excedrin on hand. Thankfully, there is no sound.
