ACME Lie Detector

ACME Lie Detector App Review                        ACME Lie Detector App Review

ACME Lie Detector Game App
Trying to get a friend to spill secrets or just want to find out what happened to your favorite blue jacket? Bust out the Acme Lie Detector app. The user places a thumb in the designated circle on the screen and the app will let you know if he or she is telling the truth. If yes, a green light “lights up” and you hear a satisfied ding. If not, the red light shines and a buzzer goes off.

You may wonder how the iPhone would know what secrets lie in the hearts of men, or women. Well, there actually is some shady business going on. Before you hand the phone to the person in question, you hold your finger on the reset button and tilt the phone to the left (towards true) or the right (towards false). This directs the app to display that answer when the user takes the challenge.

Either ask your friends questions that you know the answers to to amaze them with your iPhone’s psychic abilities or use it to try to find out confidential information. It is totally up to you. Just don’t let them in on the secret.

My favorite part of this app is the graphics. It has a realistic needle that moves from left to right after the user puts his or her thumb down. It takes a few seconds to move back and forth between true and false for added authenticity.

Though it’s doubtful this app will ever be used by the FBI, it’s definitely fun to play with.

Fieldrunners

Field Runners App Review                        Field Runners App Review

Field Runners Game App
I literally had to drag the iPhone out of my roommate’s hands to get him to quit playing this game. The object is to protect your base from the invading enemy horde using four basic weapon types — Gatling Tower, Goo Tower, Missile Tower and the ultra tough Tesla tower — to keep them from crossing from one side of the screen to the other. Let 20 cross undeterred and you’re toast.

Instead of having a character that shoots, you have to place these towers in appropriate spots on the screen by dragging and dropping them and they fire when an enemy comes within range. Each weapon has three stages of upgrade. You buy these upgrades using the dollars you get from keeping the enemies from getting across.
Field Runners iPhone App

There are little guys, big burly guys, guys on motorcycles, guys in tanks – each is progressively harder to beat and requires more firepower to kill. When you begin the level, the start out in groups of as little as two or three at a time, but as you advance you’re faced with a bigger crowd. The idea is to creatively place the towers to slow the enemies down, adding a bit of logic to what could have been a typical shoot ‘em up.

The app has multiple maps and versions of gameplay that you can unlock, such as a competition to achieve the highest score possible or to complete 100 levels. The more you play the more options you’ll get. You can use the high score list to brag to friends, but there’s no option for multiplayer. The graphics are good and the app allows you to zoom in and out using the pinch function. The sound is decent though nothing too memorable. Apparently the app can be addictive.

Todo Lite

Todo Lite App Review                        Todo Lite App Review

Todo Lite Productivity App
This app is a robust task list maker for those who like to give themselves little reminders of things they need to accomplish. To get started you touch one of the plus buttons at the top of the screen — either the quick add button with a plus sign and a lightning bolt, where you simply enter the name of the task, or the large plus sign, which lets you pick a due date and time and rank your task by priority as well as enter more detailed notes.

It also allows you to create repetitive tasks so you only have to type them in once even if you must do them on multiple days. You simply set how often you’d like to repeat them, with options from daily to every year as well as customizable intervals, such as every third day of the month. There’s one touch access to schedule a task of calling or emailing a contact off of your list or visiting a physical location or website.
Todo Lite iPhone App

Once you have your task list built, the app will sort tasks by priority, by due date or alphabetically. You can also hide tasks based on priority so you can see the most important ones without having to dig through all of the others. If you have an account with Remember the Milk or Toodledo you can sync your task list to one or both of these online services.

You don’t even have to log in to the app to see if you have current reminders. Simply scroll to the Todo icon in your app list and you’ll see the number of tasks you have due or overdue. They’ll disappear as you check them off by touching completed at the bottom of the edit task screen. This app is helpful to anyone that makes lists on a regular basis. My only complaint is that I wish it could sync to Outlook.

5800+ Drink & Cocktail Recipes

5800 Drinks App Review                        5800 Drinks App Review

5800 Drinks Lifestyle App
Who needs a bartending book when you’ve got this handy iPhone app? Not only does it have more recipes than you’re likely to find in the typical tome on mixology, it’s also easier to carry around with you or bring to a friend’s party. With thousands of drinks in the database, you’ll be thankful that you can sort drinks by categories, such as beer, cocktails or shots. Otherwise, you just get the entire list in alphabetical order. You can find anything from the typical fuzzy navel recipe to how to make your own Kahlua knockoff using vanilla extract, chocolate syrup and a few other choice ingredients.

Touch a drink’s name to get the recipe. All recipes have checkboxes by each ingredient so that you can mark them off as you add them to the mix. However, some have lists that are too long for the app’s template so you have to guess at the last few. Below the list there are detailed instructions on how to mix them together properly.
5800 Drinks iPhone App

Don’t want to navigate through the recipes or just have no clue what you want to drink, you can touch the random drink button at the bottom of the screen. How else would you introduce yourself to, for instance, the velvet tongue? Not too keen on trying that one? Touch the top left to get a new randomized choice. You can also touch the yellow star to save a recipe to your favorites list.

Overall, I liked this app. It makes for a great cheat sheet for anyone working behind the bar. The only thing I think was missing was the opportunity to search by ingredient. This would help those people who have a favorite mixed drink but just can’t remember the name of it.

Enigmo

Enigmo App Review                        Enigmo App Review

Enigmo Game App
This game reminded me a lot of the PC game called Lemmings. The object is to direct drops of water, lava or oil into their respective containers using a variety of “tools” such as ramps and bouncers. Basic game play involves touching the tool on the left side of the screen and dragging it to the place you think it needs to go. You can use the circle that appears around the item to change its orientation in order to better serve your purposes. Get the wrong item? Just touch it twice in succession to put it away and start new.

While this game may be great for analytical types, I found it to be difficult and overcomplicated. I couldn’t figure out what some of the items did without looking at the rules, and to do that I had to basically exit out of the program and look at a PDF on the manufacturer’s website. The game has no internal help and simply redirects you. The fact that you’re timed and you get no points if you don’t complete the level in the short preset limit further added to my frustration. It’s never too exciting to see you beat a level when you’re rewarded with zero points. Thankfully, there is an option to pause and to save your game so you don’t have to replay each level each time.
Enigmo iPhone App

I did, however, enjoy the excellent graphics. Even the intro screen is intricate with a distinctive underwater wobble when you touch the screen. The sound is a pretty realistic dripping water effect. So be sure to turn it off if you’ve just had three glasses of iced tea.

WiFinder

WiFinder App Review                        WiFinder App Review

WiFinder Utilities App
This app is very straightforward. It finds wireless networks in your immediate area. All you have to do is launch the app and it immediately begins scanning. It then comes up with a list. Open networks are preceded by a green check mark and locked networks have a red do not enter type sign. (My search came up with a list of 12, though only two of them were unlocked.)Touch the name of a network to get more details about it, including MAC address, channel, strength, authentication and whether it is hidden. If you have the permissions, you can connect to the network by touching the conveniently named connect button.

If you’re traveling with your iPhone, you can use the auto scan button at the bottom of your screen to set your phone to continuously look for networks automatically. You can set the intervals for rescanning to any number of seconds and request notification whenever the app finds a new network to add to the list. When this setting’s turned on, your phone will vibrate each time one pops up.
WiFinder iPhone App

It’s a helpful tool for when you’re out and about and need to find a WiFi connection. That will help you get access to local networking sources and often increases Web page loading speed. It can also be useful if you’re looking to connect your laptop or other mobile tools.

The interface is simple and clean. It’s very easy to use the app and it’s a total cinch to learn. Navigating the maze of wireless networks you find might be another story.

Digi Drummer

Digi Drummer App Review                        Digi Drummer App Review

Digi Drummer Music App
The DigiDrummer app is like having a beat machine in your pocket, allowing you to make beats and play them with the most common of drum kit sounds. These include kick drum, snare, various tom-tom sounds and cymbals. To get started, go to patch select in the top right corner of the screen and use the up and down arrows to pick your kit from one of ten options. Then touch your “drums,” which are the eight white circles in the middle of the screen, to make your track. You can then record it and play it back. Just make sure to press record before you start playing.

If you want to go a nontraditional route, you can choose the “crazy” setting. This gives you not only drum sounds but also three different record scratching sounds – perfect for the aspiring iPhone rapper. You can also go to the settings menu, which gives you access to three options. You can choose “fatty thumbs skin” which makes the drums square and a little bit bigger. This was perfect for my boyfriend who has larger fingers. There’s also a volume control and a place to create a beat library by saving your beats permanently after you record them. If you don’t add them to the library the go away after you exit the app.
Digi Drummer iPhone App

This app was fun for me, a tone deaf person, and also for my boyfriend, an amateur drummer. In fact, I had trouble dragging the phone away from him for the purposes of writing this review. His only complaint was that the volume was too quiet, but I think I’ll be thankful for that in the future.

Speed Brain

Speed Brain App Review                        Speed Brain App Review

Speed Brain Game App
This app is meant to boost your brain activity and take your mind out of its typical thought patterns. Though it has a very simply design, there is actually some pretty complex science going on here. To play the game, go to start game, of course. Then double tap the screen. You’ll see a pattern of circles, a square or another assortment of shapes. The app will automatically advance you to the next image. Once you see it, simply pick match or no match depending on whether the image is exactly the same as the one preceding it. Continue doing this until you run out of time. The more you get right the higher your score. You get bonuses for completing combinations.

This game may seem incredibly easy, and it is if you go slowly. However, the whole point is to go as fast as you can to keep your mind at peak performance and to show off to your friends. If you want your friends to be jealous of your score, you can email it to them by touching the more button at the bottom of the screen and selecting challenge friends. They’ll then get a link to download the app themselves, potentially starting an exchange of Speed Brain trash talk.
Speed Brain iPhone App

There’s also options to turn the sound off and on and choose whether to have your phone vibrate when you make a mistake (which eventually can get annoying). Other buttons allow you to read more of the science behind the game or check out a profile. But mostly what they do is redirect you to the manufacturer’s website.

I thought this app was fun and easy to use and it did make me feel a little smarter.

Cro-Mag Rally

Cro Mag Rally App Review                        Cro Mag Rally iPhone App Review

Cro Mag Rally Game App
This app is a racing game that takes place in the Stone Age. It gives you an option of being either a brog or a grag, which are male and female cave people. Then you get to pick your car from such items as a bone buggy or a turtle tank to create a distinct look for your player.

After you’re set up, you head to the track, where you race against three other players. You can choose a traditional race or the gather option, where you’re tasked with picking up items on your journey. To move your vehicle you touch an arrow on the left side of the screen to move forward and backward. Then you tilt your iPhone to determine more specific directions and lean it to increase or decrease your speed. Of course, this is a lot trickier than using a traditional keyboard or joystick and I spent a lot of time driving backwards or running into walls. It’s also pretty uncomfortable to have to touch the screen and tilt at the same time, but if you don’t your character will simply stop in its tracks.Only thing I missed when playing this app is the loud noises of other arcade patrons and the tickets the machine kicks out after scoring so many baskets you can cash in on lame prizes.
Cro Mag Rally iPhone App

Once you get the hang of the steering, if you ever do, there are more obstacles to overcome – including ones that come from the other players. They can throw bones, ice balls and homing pigeons at you, and you can conversely throw them back. Other items you can pick up along the track include lightning bolts that make you go faster and sticky tires to help you hug turns. But watch out for the tornadoes, polar bears and abominable snowmen. They can really screw up your route.

If nothing else, this game is funny, with its eye-catching graphics and quirky music. However, the levels seem very long and there are no multiplayer options to keep things interesting.

Arcade Hoops Basketball

Arcade Hoops Basketball App Review                        Arcade Hoops Basketball iPhone App Review

Arcade Hoops Basketball Game App
This Basketball game is OFF THE HOOK, extremely user friendly and addicting. Once you click the app & it starts, you can choose Classic Game, Progressive Game or you can view high scores. Info Options offer How To Play Instructions, Music, Sound FX and Track selections .

This game app is quite simple and basic. Most people have seen or played arcade basketball before either at Specialty restaurant or tourist destination. The objective of the game is the same, shoot for the hoop until the clock runs out your have four balls to get the job done. Only thing I missed when playing this app is the loud noises of other arcade patrons and the tickets the machine kicks out after scoring so many baskets you can cash in on lame prizes.
Arcade Hoops Basketball iPhone App

There is two different types of game play, Classic Mode you get 45 seconds to shoot as many baskets as possible at a modest distant pretty simple once you master the shooting, In Progressive Mode you 99 seconds to as many baskets as possible with a twist your hoop will change distances  after so many seconds it will start out rather close with 2 point shoots and eventually moves back a pretty good distance for 3 point shoots.

Overall, this game is a BLAST. The music and graphics are ok, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing the game is very entertaining. I found this game very entertaining so I decided to see what my 7 year old nephew thought of it. In his own words " Dude This Rocks", My Thoughts exactly.
